In response to my query last spring, a fellow researcher from Bienville Parish transcribed portions of an article from a book entitled History of Bienville Parish, Volume I [page 175] published about 1925 describing the life of Reverend George N. CLAMPITT. He was a circuit riding "Cumberland Presbyterian" minister born in 1813 somewhere in South Carolina. He and his wife Mary [born 1822 in Alabama] came to the community of Arcadia in Bienville Parish, Louisiana in 1857 when this was frontier farming country just being settled by people migrating from east of the Mississippi River. And by the way, if you don't already know this, in the State of Louisiana the unit of local government called a "county" in all the other states is called a "parish" which is a tribute to our early French and Spanish Catholic heritage. Take a look at my 12th Louisiana Infantry website and click on the Company Page: I have posted a map of the parishes of Louisiana as they existed in 1861. Bienville is in the northwestern corner of the state.
Quoting directly from the article on Reverend George N. CLAMPITT:
Not too much religious activity existed in the new town of Arcadia when the Reverend Mr. CLAMPITT arrived but the spiritual nature of the people began an upsweep after his coming. Folks had been busy getting a town started but now they could think about the finer things of life.
Even though there was never a very large band of Presbyterians, Reverend Clampitt was said to have wielded a great deal of good during his years of residence. Earlier historians recall that "Reverend Clampitt was a great Mason and probably conducted more Masonic funerals than any other half dozen men in this section of the country." His followers did not build a church until the 1880's and after his death it disbanded.
The Clampitts had several children. Among them was W. J. who married J. C. Allen; Rebecca born 1844 in Alabama who married Samuel Pullig; Sarah or Sallie born 1853 in Arkansas who married James K. Pullig; Virginia who was born in Arkansas in 1856; and Laura to arrived in 1862 after the family had come to Louisiana.
At least two of Reverend Clampitt's great grand daughters live in Bienville Parish today [circa 1925]. They are Mrs. Minnie Cummings and Mrs. Annie Lou Moseley. There may be other descendants.
My correspondent went on to provide notes from still another article in Bienville Parish History [page 6]:
Reverend George N. Clampitt, probably the best known Presbyterian in this area, may have performed more marriages as he rode horseback over rough trails, than any other of this time. Reverend Clampitt was born September 8, 1813 and came to the parish very early in it's history. He ministered to many rural families, keeping alive the Word of God to those who were not able to attend regular church services. Reverend Clampitt was a Mason and his picture hangs in the Arcadia Masonic Hall. He is held in high esteem by all. Death came to him on May 4, 1896 while he was visiting Vienna, Louisiana.

(<www.pro.gov.uk>) has a War Office record (WO 97/817/36 ) for JAMES
CLAMPETT, born THURLES, Tipperary, who served in 69th Foot Regiment
1831-1836, discharged aged 26. So he was born circa 1810.
The 69th (South Lincolnshire) Regiment of Foot served on garrison duty in
England from l826 to 1831, and in the West Indies and Demerara, South
America from 1831 to 1838.
